GEORGE’S RECCOMENDATIONS

SIRACUSA

Home to a staggering number of well-preserved Greek (and Roman) remains. The main attraction is undoubtedly the Greek theatre that dates back at least until the 5th Century BC. The island of Ortigia is the historical center of Siracusa and without any doubt, you should spend time exploring and enjoying this most fascinating location. You can read more about Siracusa at the following webpage: www.italyguides.it. I recommend that you anchored within Porto Grande but you should contact the port authority before entering. Unfortunately, Siracusa is notorious for theft of tenders left unattended. Alternatively, berths are also available stern too the waterfront and are allocated by the port captain (Capitaneria di Porto). Marina Yachting just outside the entrance to Ortigia offers pontoon berths and you can contact them by phone on +39 334 1795479 (mobile) or +39 0931 419002 (landline). You can visit the marina’s website at www.marinayachtingsr.it. During you stay in Siracusa, you may wish to take the opportunity of exploring the Nature Reserve of the Ciane river using your own dinghy. For more information visit the following webpage: luoghi.italianbotanicalheritage.com. If you are heading further south, you may wish to consider a stop for a swim off the beach of Fontane Bianche (36° 57’ 38” N – 015° 12’ 36” E). If you are renting a car in Siracuse, I recommend you visited the wonderful baroque town on Noto and if you have time, you may wish to discover the Necropolis of Pantalica which is also not far from Siracusa.
